Aims

The Yiewsley and West Drayton Training Band aims to give people from all ages and backgrounds the chance to learn a brass instrument or percussion, from cornet to tuba to side drum.

Tutoring is given by people from the main band who together have over 35 years of experience.

The Yiewsley and West Drayton Training Band aims to teach pupils until they are ready to sit in on the mainband - pupils are encouraged to listen to the senior band after training band.

As well as aims of letting them play in the senior band, the staff are keen to put the training band members in for graded exams using the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examination board.

At the training band, staff aim to let players interact with each other - whether this be in small ensembles, or all together as a band, as this gives them a chance to taste what playing in a brass band is like. Using the 'Team Brass' books makes it easy to let more able players to play with the less able players, enforcing this interaction.

However, overall the Yiewsley and West Drayton Training Band aims to create a friendly and welcoming environment that allows pupils to feel relaxed and motivated, as well as eager to learn.
